Hello Vishal,
if you have not done any other coaching or if you have not dropped any year in between your studies, then drop of one year that too for the preparation for JEE Main will definitely not affect your career in your later stages.
The year drops for some unusual reasons affects the placements after studies.
So, if you are confident that you will work hard for JEE next year and even your parents are confident about you, you may drop for preparations. A good rank in JEE will move you to good Engineering college, then you will not recall this dropped year.

If you are confident enough and stable emotionally then taking a year gap is worth it. Otherwise it is quite harder to even manage the year gap. That being said, many of the friends have taken such year gap and they managed to make it into NIT. It all depends on how focused on the work and that is what decides the academics. But it depends on your preparation and efforts that you can take there

all the best

Hello Vishal,

No, it is not a good idea. First of all, why are you planning to drop for 2 years? There is no such hard and fast rule that if your drop for 2 years to prepare for JEE mains, you would get a good rank. It comes with its share of uncertainties that would lead to wastage of time and the years you could have put into your graduation. If you are eager to get into NIT, start preparing for it from standard 11 itself.

Coming to the second part, every student has his/her own pace by which they learn. What might take you 1 year to learn might take someone else 2 years to learn. So you need to decide according to your speed of learning.

My opinion would not be to give a drop, that too of 2 years. You might not be able to understand the loss now but that would affect later on. Even if you have planned for a drop, kindly do not extend beyond a year.

Hope this helps.
