It depends on what type of government jobs you are looking for. Individuals from both the branches are equally there in all government jobs.Both Electrical and mechanical candidates get offers from PSUs through GATE. Then you have IES examination where you can get government jobs.Ofcourse the competition is little high in these branches as compared to other branches.Both are core branches and you can chose the one which excites you more.
