The enrollment fee structure for the Tamil Nadu Bar Council is as follows:

- General Category: Around Rs. 14,000

- SC/ST Category: Around Rs. 11,000

The fee includes:

- Admission fee

- University development fee

- Bar Council enrollment fee

However, the total fee is significantly higher than the Rs. 750 recommended by the Advocates Act. Students have to pay additional fees for:

- Life membership of Bar Council of India (Rs. 3,000)

- Verification of degrees and certificates issued after June 2010 (around Rs. 4,000 on average)

Students argue that the high fees, especially for disadvantaged categories, are pushing them away from pursuing a law career. They demand more exemptions and fee waivers from the Bar Council.

The Bar Council maintains that the fees are necessary to cover increased costs of maintaining records, verifying certificates, setting up e-governance systems, and meeting other administrative expenses. As bar councils do not receive government funding, student fees are their only source of income.
