For first-generation graduates pursuing engineering, the fee structure varies considerably based on the type of institution (government or private) and prevailing state policies.

In Tamil Nadu, under current government regulations:

  • Government Engineering Colleges:

First-generation graduates are exempt from tuition fees. Nevertheless, they remain responsible for nominal charges such as examination and special fees. The total annual expenditure usually falls between Rs5,000 and Rs10,000.

  • Private Engineering Colleges (Government Quota via TNEA):

Ordinarily, tuition fees range from Rs50,000 to Rs75,000 per annum. However, first-generation graduates admitted through the government quota may have their tuition fees waived. Other compulsory charges still apply, so the effective yearly cost generally lies between Rs20,000 and Rs30,000, subject to the specific institution.

It is essential that applicants submit a properly attested first-generation graduate certificate to avail themselves of this concession.

For admissions in other states or under management quotas, fee structures and available concessions may differ. Please provide your state and college type for a more precise estimate.
