It depends on the college,as few run their own timetable.IT will be very different  as students can choose their own timetable.

The college timings for any branch will be like morning 9 to  1 again after lunch from 2 to 4. It might change for the subsequent years. You will get to know that once you get Ur schedule or college routine.

The college timings for any branch will be like morning 8:30-9 to 12-12:30 again after lunch from 1:30-2 to 3:30/4. It might change for the subsequent years. You will get to know that once you get Ur schedule or college routine. It varies from college to college,you won't get exact timings until you mention your college, the above mentioned routine is for most of the nits/iits.

The  college timings of every branch is same generally the college starts at 9am and ends at 4pm
And there are two types of colleges
1) automanous - the timings of this Colleges completely depended on the college
Schedule
2)non automanous-  this college  are affiliated from universities they follow the schedule which they get from University
Generally all engineering colleges timings will be 9am-4pm

The difference between the two shifts are as follows :

1. First Shift starts at 8:00 am and ends by 2:30 pm where as Second shift starts at 11 pm and ends by 5:30 pm.
2. First shift has a higher cutoff due to which you will get good and competitive batchmates that may not be the case in Second shift.
3. Having said competitive means that Students of First shift are generally a little more college oriented. They attend a lot of lectures due to which there are less absents.
4. The faculty in First Shift is quite experienced as compared to Second shift but at the same time they are a little strict about Attendance and Lab work.

    5. Regarding placements, everyone is treated fairly whether from 1st Shift or 2nd all get to sit in         placements if you have no backlogs and match company criteria.
