Hello candidate,
Yes you have moderate chances of getting non core branches at the top NITs ( In NIT Tirchy , NIT surathkal ,NIT Durgapur), however you have slim chances of getting core branches at the newer NITs ( NIT Uttarakhand NIT Arunachal Pradesh NIT Meghalaya NIT Nagaland etc).
