To go into research you have to first complete your graduation and post-graduation. You do graduation in any course as you said you're interested in electronics so you can either do BSc in physics then MSC or you can choose Btech from ECE then later on do Mtech in ECE after than you cab persu your PHD from the subject and do research work later on. If you want a job with new inventions and idea research is the best career option for you.
