Basically, yes, you can write KVPY exam after completing class 12. However, you need to choose the SB stream. The eligibility criteria states that:

• Candidates who completed the first year of a UG course in Basic Science such as Physics/Chemistry/Mathematics and Biology leading to a B.Sc/BS/B.Stat./B.Math/MS/M.Sc are eligible for it.
• In the Intermediate Board Examination, candidates must obtain at least 60 percent in the GEN category and 50 percent in the SC/ST/PWD category in aggregate in Science courses.
• Before accepting the fellowship, candidates must receive 60 percent (50 percent for SC/ST/PWD category) in the first year final examination in B.Sc/BS/B.Stat./B.Math./M.Sc/MS and other similar program.
