EWS category is a sub-category that falls under the General category. People who come under General Category and are not covered under the scheme of reservation for SCs, STs and OBCs and whose family has gross annual income below Rs 8 Lakhs are eligible to apply for EWS Certificate. This certificate has to be renewed every year. It is kind of an income certificate rather than a caste certificate. EWS category individuals will be provided with a 10% reservation on government jobs and admission for higher education.
