There are various characteristics of sparesly populated areas such ss poor soil for farming,poor communication,little industries and extreme climates like deserts,less or no rainfall,extreme cold weathers.The climatic conditions might be unfavourable for certain species to survive.And there are other charesttics as well like a region having less population is saved from pollution.
