Hi sandeep, Glad to hear that you have interest in INDIA'S topmost government exam. Here to clear your confusion - UPSC conduct exams such as IAS (collector), IES (Engineering service), IPS (police), IFS (Foreign service), INCOME TAX, Law etc.
IAS - any candidate completed graduation or pursuing final year of graduation in any field is capable of this exam. its has 3 stage - Prelims, Mains,& interview.
Prelims contains 2 objective paper, Mains contain 9 subjective paper, And final round is of interview in which they judge candidate personality
IES - only for Engineering students are capable for this exam...though they follow almost same paper as IAS exam but Maximum question are from Mechanical, civil, electrical...
So, if u r a engineer then can go for IES else apply for IAS, IPS, IFS.... and one more thing engineer can also apply for IAS, IPS, IFS but candidate not from engineering background cannot apply for IES...
Hope i answered all your query... further if there is any then let me know... gud luck
UPSC CSE preparation strategy along with best books for prelims as well as mains exam for sure success.
