180 is the decent score but I would suggest you to try to get 230 atleast if you wish to get admission in top NITs in top branches. And if you have not done great in 11th then not to worry, focus on your 12th syllabus properly and make all your concepts clear and avoid cramming and keep yourself confident as you still have more than 6 months for your preparation. Also, you can consider below preparation tips as these will be helpful for you -

Study Plan - First of all, you have to make a study plan for your preparations. Firstly, get information about the complete JEE Main Syllabus and divide them equally as per your time so that every minor topic should get covered in your study plans.

Time Management - After getting the detailed information about JEE Main syllabus candidates should create a timetable for studies. Students must give equal weightage to all the subjects and prepare for them as per your prepared time-table.

Study Material - At present, the market is full with the preparation books for JEE Main and students will get easily confused about what books should choose for preparation. You can also refer NCERT syllabus books to prepare for JEE Main. NCERT Physics and Chemistry books will give you a good knowledge of basic concepts.

Solve Previous Years Question Papers
Apart studying from books, students should also concentrate on the previous years question papers of JEE Main.

Develop concepts: Make sure you have studied NCERT really well. Solve all the questions from exemplar.

Speed & accuracy: To improve your speed & accuracy, practice a lot. Go through the goal wise & chapter wise tests & at-least finish 70% of each goal for a score of 180 in JEE Main

Analyze yourself:  Work on your weakness

Revise chemistry regularly: Its very easy to forget things you have studied in chemistry. It needs regular revision. Give atleast a day in a month to revise everything you have studied. Give special attention to exceptions.
