To join this , you need to fulfil certain eligiblity criterias - 

• Unmarried male or female candidate are eligible.
• Physically and mentally strong, fit for sea services under standard norms.
• 6/6 without glasses and no colour blindness. 

There are various Merchant Navy entrance exams For UG,PG as well as Diploma in Merchant navy Institutes. they include - IMU CET :Indian Maritime University common entrance test & 
AIMNET - All India Merchant Navy Entrance Test. 

AIMNET - 
AIMNET is conducted for admission in varied courses like B.Sc Nautical Science, B.Tech Naval Architecture, G.P Ratings, Diploma of APplied Science Deck watch keeper by AMSA , B.Tech Marine, MBA Shipping and Logistic Management. 
AIMNET awards scholarships to students enrolled in GPR and Deck rating Programmes of AIMNET PST. These scholarships are provided to support Economically Weaker Sections students who ant to join Onboard Training Programmes. There are certain eligiblity and conditions in order to get this scholarship . They are :

• Student of GPR & Deck Rating Programme AIMNET-PST should have to qualify the scholarship interview.
• Annual Family Income must be lesser than 2 Lakh Rupees 
• Scholarship is awarded to support EWS students' Onboard Training Programme Fees.

 The scholarship would be discontinued if the student fails to comply with these norms.
