In defence the sports quota is applicable only for non officer rank soldiers. So if you have a very good sports records you can join through sports quota. You can visit the army website for this as the notification for the vacancy are updated in the website regularly. You must have played at a very good platform in order to be eligible for sports quota like common wealth games, Asian games, South Asian games, Olympics etc. You will be directly promoted as JCO - Junior commission officer like nb sub, sub.

If you want to join in officers post you have to go through the regular procedure as other candidates.

For example if you have just completed 12th class than you can go for NDA exam national defence academy located in pune. If you have completed your graduation you can apply for the CDS + Combined defence service exam. Both exams are for tri service ie. Army, navy, Air force.

If you join through sports quota army will provide you with all help possible. Infact army encourages sports person. There aim is to have as many representatives in sports at international platform. Army also provide you with all facilities as possible in terms of infrastructure, proper diet and daily allowance.

Some of the Indian boxers, shooters are from army. It shows the amount of efforts they put in encouraging talent
