Hello Harshita,

So, to join NASA,

  • get an MS (ideally from the United States) - you can change streams if you want to, to something more relevant to space operations -
  • do a PhD (certainly from the United States) - your MS change of field will come in handy here
  • Do post-doctoral research in your subject of interest, keeping in mind what NASA might require in the future - Work as a professor at a college and conduct NASA-related research. They might contact you for additional assistance one day.

OR

  • Work at a research lab doing anything related to your topic of interest (which is also related to NASA's projects). Be a particle physicist, an electronic engineer for flying systems, and so on.

Needless to say, you must keep up to date with NASA's current programmes and update your resume properly.

While you're doing all of the above, remember to do everything you can to become a US citizen. NASA would be impossible without it.

There are no shortcuts to getting into NASA.

Also, keep your choices open for SpaceX, ISRO, and other space companies:)

Hope that helps you
