You can get admission in a government college mainly through JoSAA counselling using your category rank (like SC/ST/OBC/EWS, etc.). JoSAA is the official and only way to get admission into IITs, NITs, IIITs, and GFTIs.

There is no other direct way to get into these colleges without going through JoSAA (or CSAB special rounds after JoSAA if seats are left).
