How does high electron gain enthalpy favor ionic bond formation?

Hello candidate!
Electron gain enthalpy is the amount of energy released (or gained, in which case it would be opposite sign) by an isolated gaseous atom when we add an electron to it. Since, the compounds always want to be in lowest possible energy state, if an atom has higher electron gain enthalpy, it will accept electron more readily and make the compound more stable. Hence, the reactions are easier.
