Hii

For any entrance exam, you should be aware of the syllabus and within the syllabus you should point out those topics which are important and has been asked frequently.

Study every topic deeply and make sure that you do different varieties of questions regarding that topic so basically practice as much as you can

Make a diary or notebook where you can write important formula and key points so that you can revise it easily

Most important point is to complete your syllabus by the end of November so that you can start giving online test, these test will help you know your grey areas so that you can work on them

Last and the most important point keep yourself motivated by watching motivational videos,it will help you alot.i hope this information helps you.

All the best

GATE is not about the rank you get. It's more about the journey. The more you think about the rank, the more you come closer to losing the race.

I have read a lot of toppers' blogs and found out few common things to crack GATE with a good score. Here are those:

Do the groundwork. Prepare a schedule and strictly adhere to it.Before you start your preparation, try to spend some days collecting all the required resources, books, notes, syllabus etc. Once you are done, go through your syllabus and see the probable number of days you can take to complete each subject. Once you do that, prepare a schedule (softcopy or hardcopy) till the GATE exam day and try to follow that. Remember, practice is as important as syllabus completion. So, try to follow the 6040 rule i.e. if you have 10 months to prepare, take 6 months to finish your syllabus and 4 months to practice questions, attempt mock test.

Always read Standard Textbooks once during your B.Tech or after your B.Tech, before writing GATE.You can easily pass your end semester exams going through the questions of your university question bank. But you can't crack GATE with that. If you plan to write GATE, please read standard textbooks of all the subjects once. Yes reading once will do. Also, people get scared seeing the size of textbooks. Don't worry!! You need not read the entire book line by line. Just go through your GATE syllabus and read those topics throughly. You may want to study from video lectures available online or some other resources. Yes do it, but do it parallely with your textbooks or do it after you have finished reading textbooks once.

Prepare good quality notes. As you study the topics and chapters from your collected resources, start making handwritten notes. Your notes should contain the concepts, the formulas (if any), the key points on each topic. Your notes should be crisp and short, so that you can go through them easily while revising the subject. Prepare one small notebook for each subject, so that you can add more points as and when required. Study from your prepared notes only when revising. Don't revise from your books.

Revision is the key.Revise your notes frequently. You are the best person to judge how frequenty you should revise. Like, some do it weekly, some do it monthly. Find out how long are you taking to revise one subject and decide your frequency accordingly. The more you revise, the more you make your weapon sharp.

Use previous years GATE questions as practice materials. Don't solve the questions in the booklets of the coaching centres.I have personally seen that the questions given in the coaching centres' booklets are substandard. They are no match to the actual GATE questions. Solve previous years' GATE questions and try to get into the examiner's head. Analyse the different ways in which the examiner could've asked you the question. Try to see how the examiner plays with the students' power of thinking. Practice the previous years' questions atleast twice.

Attempt lot of mock tests. And I mean it.You have finished your syllabus and you have practiced all the previous years questions. Now what? See how you perform, when you are given a time constraint. Try to improve yourself in every test you write. Devise strategies about which section (Aptitude, 1 mark technical, 2 marks technical) you will attempt first in the main exam, check how much time you are taking to finish each test.

Don't, I repeat don't get demotivated if you perform poorly in your mock tests.Remember, mock tests are not about your performance rather, they are about how well are you equipped before the main battle. Obviously, you should keep track of your performance after each test, but that should be the last thing you do. Your focus should be more on the areas where you are making mistakes, how to reduce silly mistakes, how to attempt more questions with accuracy, how you tackle the time constraint etc. If you improve these, you mock test marks will shoot up automatically.

Try to stay calm, motivated throughout your preparation. Never lose the momentum of your studies.Consistency is the key of cracking any exam be it GATE, CAT, JEE etc. Study regularly, preferably everyday. If you are in college, devote some hours for GATE everyday. Whenever you get demotivated, just close your books, sit back and think - How will my parents react when their son/daughter will study in an IIT or work in a PSU. Believe me, you will be charged with motivation instantly when you visualise your parents' reaction.

Good luck:)
