Gate marks you need really depends on the IIT which you want and the specialisation you need . As some specialisations in same branch can cause variation of around 300 ranks in GATE exam.
As per the last year trends, if you score is around or above 700 you are very much safe and get some IIT with that, with score around 500 your chances in good specialisations diminishes but still you have chance in some IITs. The least you can expect for any IIT is around 350-450.Though the scores for these core branches vary a lot in IITs but the rough estimation has been provided. I am sure you can calculate the marks required for such rank. It won't be right if I directly mention a score because it is highly dependent on the number of seats available in different specialization in different colleges and also on the branch,h you are in.

Generall, ya score of 50+ bits of help. Though in branches like mechanical, civil even this doesn't guarantee any seat in IIT's.

Talking about various specialization under civil engineering you must fetch a rank near to 3000 to get into IIT’S.
