The answer depends on:

* the size of the college or university

* number of departments

* whether it is a small private college or a large public university

* whether you include adjunct/visiting faculty or only full-time professors

Here’s a general range:

* Small colleges (under 2,000 students)

* Usually 50–150 faculty members

* Professors per department: often 5–15

* Medium colleges (2,000–10,000 students)

* Usually 200–600 faculty members

* Professors per department: often 15–30

* Large universities (10,000–30,000+ students)

* -Usually 800–2,500+ faculty members

* Professors per department: often 30–60+

* If you mean only professors (Associate + Assistant + Full)

* In a typical department: 8–25 professors

* Across a whole college: 100–400+, depending on size Hope this helps!
