Dear Aspirant,

The amount of marks that you will get shall determine your JEE Mains rank( with respect to the performance of other candidates). Higher the marks, better the rank.

The number of marks you are targeting or looking forward to achieve shall depend your preferred college cutoff rank. If you want to join a good college of your state, you need to score atleast more than its cut off marks.

Every College has its own cutoff rank. The government engineering Institutes have a very low cutoff ranks( as lower the JEE Mains rank, better chances of you getting a better government engineering college).

The top NITs of the country provide admission to students who have secured a maximum rank less than 20000. The new and super new NITs provide admission to students who have secured a maximum rank less than 50000. Furthermore, the low ranked NITs like the North East NITs provide admission to students with a maximum rank less than 1,25,000. The rank that a candidate secures also depends on the percentile that he has achieved.

To be in the top 10,000 ranked candidates, you need to get a JEE Mains percentile greater than 99.

As you belong to the Backward Caste Section, you have some sort of reservation in government Institutes and hence that is something that may work for you for good.

Score a mark greater than 230 in JEE Mains, and you will definitely get admission in some good government college in the preferred branch of your choice. Good luck.

Dear student,
Two factors come into role

State of eligibility

Gender- Male/Female
State of eligibility is important point as because in admission in nit home state and other state category influences the rank. With lower rank also u can get a seat in North side nit's because of home state criteria .
Gender, as because of female supremacy seat this year girls got benefits with this and this year the no of girls increased in nit's .
If I consider your main aim is to get into nit not preferring any branch with obc category u can get into nit with at least90-100 marks. To be in safer side score above 100 with this u must be in any nit.
So you should attempt 25 correct questions in total and almost 8-9 questions from each subject.
