As per the information available from news nearly 37-40 thousand students appeared from the ews category.

This is only a assumption or prediction .

The exact figure is not released by the NTA .

according to national testing academy - NTA , about 45000 JEE aspirants registered in economically  weaker section among which 40000 students registered for JEE mains paper 1 and remaining 5000 registered for JEE mains paper 2 this year .

The number of candidates appeared in JEE Mains examination this year through this EWS category is around 40,000 which is quite a large number. So may be the competition in this category will be good enough to get a seat through JEE Mains in this category.
