Hello aspirant. As we all know approx 12500 seats are there in iits but jee advance gives merit list of approx 35000 rank or if needed it may exceeds because of reservations. Jee advance wants to fill all the seats if iits so it declares merit list of more  students than number of seats. A general category student with crl rank 13000 have no chance of getting a seat in iit but if a student with sc or st category can easily get admissions in very good iits like kanpur rorkee bhu at the rank of 20000 so it is needed to give results of 35000 students.
