The students intake in IIT'S,NIT'S,IIIT'S etc through jee mains and advanced exam  vary every year and usually for IIT'S it's around 10 thousand for nit's its around 18-20 thousand and for IIiT'S and Gfti's the inatake is around 3,000 to 4,000 every year..

Seat Intake at IITs, NITs, IIITs and GFTIs (2017 Vs 2016):

There are a total of about 17,390 seats in a total of 30 NITs in various branches spread over various places all over India.
There are about 10,000 seats in a total of 20 IITs in India.
NIT seats are alloted according to JEE main merit whereas IIT seats are alloted according to JEE advanced merit.
