If we talk in terms of population studies, then growth is of 2 types- exponential growth - occurs in an unlimited environment which is ideal and nit realistic. The curve turns out to be J shaped when ploted on graph.

The other one is logistic growth- a growth occurring under limited environment when pressures from environment slows down the Growth rate. The curve is S shaped.

In general microorganisms show growth via cell division. Animals have a limited growth while plants grow throughout thier lives.
