CMAT Preparation Strategy

The paper can be split into three parts: concept driven, practice intensive and environment sensitive. Quantitative Techniques & Data Interpretation and select areas of Language Comprehension are concept driven. Questions on these areas are difficult to attempt without concept clarity and hence it is advised to brush up the key fundamentals in these areas. Logical Reasoning is a purely practice intensive section and the comfort level here is directly proportional to practicing across similar questions. General Awareness is environment sensitive and can be best prepared by a dichotomous approach, viewing the section as a make up of current and static awareness.

The exam is markedly different from the other MBA entrance exams as it features a section on Decision Making. This is an area that checks your management aptitude by presenting different situations and cases, and asks you to identify the correct recourse in these situations.

The best way to prepare is to give as many mock tests as you can. You will get to know your weaknesses and also know how to manage your time well. 

Moreover the more mock tests you give the more familiar you will be with typical questions and it will help you increase your speed. Give online tests which are given by a large number of people so that you get a good idea of where you stand. 

You also need to analyse each of your mock tests so that you get to know and derive observations from the tests. See which areas you are facing a difficulty in and concentrate more on those areas. Register on sites like Testfunda or Oliveboard for such tests. Also, you can install apps like business insider or economic times so you stay up to date with current affairs. It will also help you develop a reading habit which will help you in the verbal ability section. All the best!

You need to handle the test challenges more confidently for Preparing the decision making section and the essay writing. Do practise as much you can & join Mock test. Overall you need to focus more on time management, prioritization and striking a right balance between speed and accuracy.
