You can apply for the NMMS scholarship online through your state’s SCERT portal, but you’ll also need to submit a hard copy of the form through your school.

First, register on the National Scholarship Portal (NSP) and complete the One-Time Registration (OTR) using your Aadhaar and other personal details.

Next, log in to NSP and search for the NMMS scholarship under the "Apply for Scholarship" section. Select your state and fill out the NMMS application form.

Fill in your personal details, academic information, family income, caste category if applicable, and upload your passport-size photo and signature. Once the online form is submitted, take a printout and get it signed by your school head and your guardian.

Submit the printed and signed form along with the required documents to your school before the last date. Your school will verify it and send it to the district education office.

The last date to apply depends on your state, usually between June and August. So, check your state SCERT website for exact dates.

Once submitted, admit cards will be given through your school or state portal, and the exam will be conducted offline at your exam center.

NMMS is for students currently studying in Class 8, with at least 55% marks in Class 7 (50% for SC/ST), and family income not more than Rs 3.5 lakh per year.

The exam includes two papers: Mental Ability Test (MAT) and Scholastic Aptitude Test (SAT). Each paper has 90 marks and a time limit of 90 minutes. There is no negative marking. To pass, students must score at least 40% total (32% for SC/ST).

If selected, the student gets Rs 1,000 per month or Rs 12,000 per year, for four years till Class 12.
