It doesn't matter from which Educational babkground you belong . If you prepare well and have depth knowledge you can acheive what you want.

For higher education always choose subject of interest and comfortable with. You need to work harder  and motivated all the time.

Acquint yourself with the syllabus, paper pattern and start  collecting material. You should read newspaper as well as keep up with current affairs. As a Science student you can either opt for pure Science subjects in mains because IAS is all about competition and there you have to find your edge.  You can even go for scoring Subject like public administration , political science .

To clear prelims you need a thorough knowledge of almost all liberal arts and GK subjects.star with NCERT and move on to guidebooks. Smart study and note making is key to success. You can even go for popular IAS coaching centres which offers one year  or 6 months Courses. They will provide you test materials and mock tests.

UPSC examinations doesn't mention a particular stream students should appear in the examinination.

Now, as you said you are science student. Subjects like maths will only be useful while you attempt paper. If you are just 12th pass and going to take admission in bachelor's degree, it is suggested to choose bachelor of arts (BA) which will be very much useful in preparation of UPSC examination.

If you have already done your degree then go for IAS academy coaching classes, and till the lockdown is done can prepare by watching YouTube information. If still queries arises do ask.
