Hi Yash,

The decision-making questions are presented in 2 different forms. One that asks for ideal steps/ action to be taken in a given situation and other that to get the source of the situation. For solving such questions, you need to have to go through the given text and look for information that is valuable and interpret it.

The good way to prepare for it is to solve previous year papers and get an idea of different scenarios that can be asked.  While choosing your answer make sure that you have not taken any unnecessary assumption and have not missed any side of the story. (Always go for an ethical decision though other options might seems most beneficial).

Hello Yash,

The decision making section in XAT examination generally has the maximum number of questions in the paper as per the trend in last few years.

If interpreted properly, these questions are simple to answer. It requires a very clear understanding of the situation given along with a logical approah to answer the questions correctly.

The best way to practice and gain speed in this section is to solve the questions asked in the previous years' papers and understand their inherent logic. The approach that can be followed to prepare this section while solving practice papers is to glance all the situations given for a minute or two. Further, choose the situations which you feel are familier to you and can be answered or have less content. Once the situation is selected, go through the question(s), get an idea of what has been asked and then read the situation given.

Ultimately, it is all about how you extract the relevant data, analyse it and apply the logic which requires speed with patience.

Hey Yash!

The decision-making section in the XAT exam ensures your ability to interpret and then react to a situation. The questions are more managerial psychological and HR based, so you can solve it on the exam itself without prior practice. It’s about testing your IQ and EQ. And, if you want, you can also take a few XAT tests online, under a good coaching institute or free of cost online.
