Solve all last year question papers.

Refer standard books to study.

Make short notes in form of small points.

Work daily and revise all formulas.

Try to focus more on studies.

Mainly in Gate exam the 2nd and 3rd year courses are coming from your respective b.tech courses.If u want to prepare from 1st year then u should go through it's previous year questions and study hard to get good CGPA in b.tech.It will helpful to u in future.
