Descriptive writing is nothing but an essay and a letter. This is the section where you can score real good if you keep a tab on the current events across the glob in the fields of politics, economics, technology, health care, etc. A little research about these topics before hand will keep you aware when you have to appear for the exam.

Essay should not exceed more than 250 words. It carries 50 marks and the breakdown is as follows:

Relevance: 10

Spelling/Grammar: 5

Word limit: 5

Content Quality: 8

Format: 5

Writing Neat and Clean: 5

Effective Sentences: 7

Cohesiveness: 5

The essay needs to  have atleast 3 paragraphs. The 1st paragraph needs to be an introductory one, 2nd should have the body which comprises of the pros and cons of the topic given and the 3rd paragraph is the concluding paragraph. Because the word limit is 250, you need to keep it concise and sticking to the topic asked needs to be mentioned. Remember to avoid any Grammatical errors. For this you need to know English Grammar and its rules. Wren and Martin is a good book for that. Using a phrase or a quote at the beginning of your essay and concluding the essay with the same will make your essay stand apart. Make sure you do not use jargon and keep it simple. Do not allow your personal opinions to take over. Keep it neutral.

Letter writing has 150 word limit and here is the breakdown:

Relevance: 10

spelling/Grammar: 5

Format: 5

Writing Neat and Clean: 5

Effective Sentences: 7

Cohesiveness: 5
