Without studying in coaching you can also crack CAT. Going to coaching is not the gateway to crack CAT. Stragegy and knowing your exam is the key to crack CAT. Generally there are four parts in CAT Exam: VA/RC & LR/DI. See the pattern of each and every topic and start preparing for the exam.

Tips to crack CAT:

- Clear your Basics: The first thing should be to clear your basics in each part. If you know your basics you can solve any complex problems.

- Time block : Keep a slot for each and every part. For example, if you study 4 hours a day, then you can allocate each hour to each part. Like 1hour to VA, 1hour to RC and so on. In that way you can give time to each and every topic. You can also time block for a particular topic. For example, you can give 15 mins to learn vocabulary everyday and another 30mins to practise comphrehension.

- Mock test: Give mock test regularly. Or atleast once in 2 days. There are many online mock test available. Also if you donot want coaching, but you can apply for mock test in those coaching. Mock tests are important, because that will help you in learning your weak points. You can focus on that weak point and improve.

- Make a plan and set goals: Make a monthly, quarterly and half-yearly plan. Make goals for each and every month. Keep a track whether you have reached those goals by end of that month. In this way you can complete your syllabus less stress-fully.

- Believe in yourself : I feel this is the most important thing. If you don't beleive in yourself, you will loose confidence.

- Keep calm and motivated: Mental health is important when its come to one of the most important competitive exam. Hence keep your calm and motivated. You can do it.

Cat 2019 will probably be in the month of November and you have about 5 months to prepare for the exam. Now assuming that you you are either a college student or working employee you will have to find at least 3 hours a day to study D the basic syllabus and clear concepts in the coming two months. During these two months make sure that you identify your weaknesses and strengths and jot them down on a piece of paper and stick it above your study table. In these two months try to convert your weaknesses into strengths and try to cut down your time to solve a question in your strengths. After 2 months you need to buy buy a good test series either from time or or IMS. And you need to at least give two to three e mock test every week. Give your mock test on Saturdays and Sundays and analyse them on the same day itself. While analysing you need to to take note of questions that you are getting wrong and the amount of time you spent on that question. Because this time could you have been utilised in getting another question right. Cat is not an exam for how many questions you are able to solve but it it is an exam where you have to smartly we avoid the questions that take time have more probability of going wrong. This is where the difference comes between the toppers and the 95% percentile. In one or two months after you have completed your syllabus you have to religiously give the mock tests and analyse your strengths and weaknesses. Now in the remaining 1 month focus only on your strengths and cut down the amount of time you take to solve the questions from those topics. This will help you to cross at least 10 to 15 marks in your exam. Now for verbal you need to to start reading passages from the internet for any novel or or a book that you might like. Also pick up topics like economics, philosophies, satire and old old English books o thoughts of various philosophers and thinkers of the the 17th and 18th centuries because it is mostly from the above sections at passages are asked in CAT. D i l r is the most difficult section in CAT and even if you get 10 questions correct in the section you will cross 90 percentile. Quant studies must be done daily E and you must remember the squares and cubes of numbers till 20 aur 30 by heart. You should memorize the fractions and the decimal equivalent too. All these small small things will help you cut down the time that you take to solve quants questions as it is the most time consuming section for people from non engineering backgrounds. Get started with basics & then eventually work your way up the problem sets.That is the way to go.

Firstly its imperative that you know what is the syllabus for the CAT examination.You can find that from TIME,IMS,CL or any other CAT coaching site.

But the important topics for for all three sections are as follows-

Quant-Geometry,Arithmetic,Number System & Logarithm(1–2 question). P & C ,Probability (1–2) question.

Verbal- RC(24/34 question) Parajumble,Parasummary (4 question each)

DI/LR-Game based Caselets.Logical DI,Question on pathways.Maximum & Minimum questions.

These are important topics when it comes to CAT.

Below are few pointers I suggest to work on for CAT preparation.

I will suggest CBSE NCERT book for Maths,English and Arihant for LR/DI .Though Arun Sharma is good for Maths ,but given the level of quant in past two year .

Also start reading newspaprs start with reading Hindu Editorials .You can move to reading economic times ,New York Times later on.Read ,read and read!! Trust me it helps a lot in CAT RC .
