Yes you can focus on learning new language. But what my personal suggestion is you should focus on your current syllabus only. Study well what is there in your whole engineering degree. Then you can gradually start studying subjects those are interrelated to your stream.

You should learn atleast 3 or 4 programming languages with complete command in any one programming language during your engineering course. Then you can focus 0n topics like algorithm,database,ML,AI,etc.

a computer engineering student need not to learn a lot of languages but you can just take a correct language which have scope in future for atleast 10years and complete the total course and then you can learn atleast 2 scripting languages.

yes algorithm of database is also a good option but there are few more good choicses than that like python script,java script and hadoop....etc.
