Hi. Vashas. Both course are equivalents but PGDM is more advanced and business oriented programme in todays time in compare to MBA. So I would suggest go for PGDM course. MBA

MBA is the degree that can be offered only by Universities (Indian or Foriegn universities ) It can be offered only by universities or institutions affliated by universities that is why institutes like NIMT offer MBA degree.Now if we talk about IIM's and XLRI's , even they don't provide MBA degree instead they provide PGDM degree.

If we talk about the curriculum of education provided in MBA it is more theoretical than practical knowledge.

PGDM

Now if we talk about PGDM it is generally offered by the colleges which are not affliated by universities.This degree is provided by the autonomous body which is not affliated by any University hence the institute can modify the education pattern according the requirements.

It lays more emphasis on practical knowledge rather than theoretical knowledge.Along with this course it provides many programmes also.

Conclusion

The fees structure of PGDM courses offered is relatively high than MBA degree course.The type of education provided in both is some what different.If you want to gain practical knowledge and experience you may go for PGDM course.

Hi Yashas, both the courses are same. You have to pay more fees for PGDM as compare to MBA. Personally I suggest you to go for PGDM because it is more industry oriented as compare to MBA.

 Let me lay down the differences  between them :

Diploma Vs Degree : 

• At the end of a PGDM course, students are offered a Post

        Graduate Diploma whereas at the end of an MBA program, students receive a degree. 

• All the Indian Institutes of Management (IIMs) and other top B-Schools 

        such as XLRI, Jamshedpur and SP Jain Institute of Management and Research,

        Mumbai offer PGDM courses.

• Most of these institutes are not affiliated 

        to any University and conduct their own management course.

Syllabus : 

• MBA course curriculum is created by the university. 

• The core syllabus will be similar in two MBA colleges under the same university.

• However, PGDM courses are created by the individual institute. 

• This gives a certain flexibility to the course syllabus as they 

         can change according to industrial needs annually.

•  Compared to this , universities tend to lag behind and change their syllabus after a few years.

Focus : 

• MBA courses  tend to focus more on theoretical concepts of management rather than practical . 

• PGDM courses focus on industrial requirements and what skills are demanded most in the market.
