Core sector jobs in mechanical engineering has dropped and automobile industries are in crisis nowadays who are big employers so jobs in private in core sector is less and not safe. If you want high packages I'll suggest you to prepare for gate you have time the exam will be in January so you can prepare for it. PSUs have better package and job security.
