Hello bleesy,
With the rank 42k, you chance for NIT is less but you can try in NIT like NUT Mizoram, NIT Sikkim and NIT Manipur etc.
You can also try in some good private college also.
You can also predict your college here-

Hello Dear,

if you wanna get a seat into a government college then chances are there in your home state.but if you don't want then another option will be a private institution. they offer better infrastructure as well as education.

some of the private institutions are-

SRM, VIT, Amity, LPU, Chandigarh University, KIIT etc.

more colleges are:

Hi Blessy Lawrence.

Your rank alone cannot determine the chances of you getting admission in a specific institute. Your reservation and state has a role in it. So, if you're a general candidate, chances for you to get admission in a TOP NIT for a core course is less. But, if you have a reservation, you my get a core course in a top NIT. And, in the case of HS quota in NIT, you'll get admission if you're from a northern or north-eastern state, in your homestate NIT. But, if you're from south india, you won't get admission in HS quota, with such a rank. And, you can try for IIIT also...

Good Luck.
