if you wanna get a seat into a government college then chances are there in your home state.but if you don't want then another option will be a private institution. they offer better infrastructure as well as education.

Your rank alone cannot determine the chances of you getting admission in a specific institute. Your reservation and state has a role in it. So, if you're a general candidate, chances for you to get admission in a TOP NIT for a core course is less. But, if you have a reservation, you my get a core course in a top NIT. And, in the case of HS quota in NIT, you'll get admission if you're from a northern or north-eastern state, in your homestate NIT. But, if you're from south india, you won't get admission in HS quota, with such a rank. And, you can try for IIIT also...
