If you are a general male then getting a good nit seems to me a distant dream. You can still get into some newer nits or eastern state nits like Manipur, Nagaland or you can always try out your home state universities as they have plenty of seats reserved for its local students.

Yes you could get an nit but you have to wait for official announcement. It can only provide based on number of students appeared and category wise distribution.
