There is no lecturer in government engineering colleges. the echelon starts with the post of assistant professor. For getting a post of assistant professor in engineering colleges, one has to qualify GATE exam with marks much more than the cutoff marks. Minimum recommended qualifications for the post along with GATE score is Mtech in that respective branch.

Every university/college then release notification about the vacant posts regarding particular subjects. After applying the scores of GATE, one needs to clear descriptive papers followed by an interview to finally get in merit for the post.

GATE exam is entertained to apply for post of assistant professor in government engineering colleges along with Mtech. No NET exam is entertained for technical.

In order to apply for lecturer or professor you have to appear for NET exam conducted by UGC two times a year.

According to the eligibility criteria eligible candidate must be an Indian citizen having completed BE with at least 55% marks(50% marks for SC/ST candidate) from a recognised University.
