Everybody is fascinatedby aeroplanes and flying. Every time people go to the airport, they tend to stop for a moment and look at the aeroplanes parked. I suppose its something which is not easily accessible and flying in the air surely attracts everyone.

These days, many kids want to become pilots but are clueless about how to become one. To begin with, it is one of the best and most lucrative jobs in India. A fresher gets around 1.5 lakh per month for domestic flights and more than 4 lakh per month for experienced international pilots, and it is paid based on the number of flight hours.

That brings us back to the question, What do I need to become pilot?

Firstly, you cannot become a pilot just after completing 10th. Although the process of becoming one starts once the candidate has completed 10th standard, but it is only the first stage of the commercial course.

10th standard students usually have two options:

Wait for 2 years and complete 10+2 science schooling (Physics, Chemistry, Maths) from a regular school

Enroll for 10+2 science stream course at Open School like NIOS (National Institute of Open Schooling)

There are many flying schools that also help candidates get through 10+2 schooling through NIOS. So, you may directly approach such schools after 10th and put forward your application to complete 12th through this mode of schooling. However, a candidate may also have to clear further selection stages like Medical tests, Pilot Aptitude test, etc. in addition to meeting this schooling requirement!

Here are some of the schools in India that offer pilot training:

Madhya Pradesh Flying Club

Indira Gandhi Rashtriya Uran Akademi, Uttar Pradesh

Flying Training Institute, Behala, Calcutta

Government Aviation Training Institute, Civil Aerodrome, Bhubaneswar

Karnal Aviation Club, Kunjpura Road, Karnal, Haryana

Government Flying Club, Aerodrome, Lucknow

School of Aviation Science and Technology, Delhi Flying Club Ltd, New Delhi

State Civil Aviation, UP Govt Flying Training Center Kanpur and Varanasi

Rajasthan State Flying School, Sanganer Airport, Jaipur

Govt Flying Training School Jakkur Aerodrome, Bangalore

Andhra Pradesh Flying Club Hyderabad Airport, Hyderabad

Assam Flying Club, Guwahati Airport, Guwahati

Bihar Flying Institute, Civil Aerodrome, Patna, Bihar

Entrance Exam at Training Institutes

After you choose the training institute where you wish to complete the training, you need to clear an entrance exam at the pilot training school where you should clear the written exam and a physical test, which is quite tough and admits only able candidates.

Physical Requirements

1. You height should be at least 5 feet.

2. You vision should be 6/6. Candidates are allowed to wear eyeglasses as long as their vision is correctable to 20/20.

3. You should not have fear of heights.

How to Become a Pilot Without Fees?

If you want to become a pilot in India without paying the heavy amount of fees to the training institutes, then here is how you can proceed. You need to clear the NDA (National Defence Service) exam held by the Indian Airforce. If you clear the NDA exam and physical test, the training will be free and after your training you will be paid Rs.50000 to Rs.60000 per month.

Eligibility

Candidate should be a citizen of India.

Candidate should complete the 12th standard from any recognized state board of India.

Age limit is between 16.5 to 19 years.

Only unmarried male candidates are eligible. Girls are not eligible for this exam.

Candidate should be physically and medically fit for this exam.

How to Get a Pilot License in India?

Now that you are trained to become pilot in India, you need to get a license so that you should be allowed to fly an airplane. There are three kinds of license:

Student Pilot License

Private Pilot License

Commercial Pilot License

Becoming a Commercial Pilot

Once your training course is complete, you can obtain the licenses listed above and as soon as you get the commercial pilot license (CPL), you are eligible to become a commercial plane pilot in India. After you have a CPL, you can fly for an airline in India as well.

Becoming an Airline Pilot

To become an airline pilot, you first need to have a Commercial Pilot License. Now you can apply for different airlines. Airlines will then select the able candidates and appoint them as trainees. After the training is completed, they will be appointed as an Airline pilot in India.

So, this is how you can go about becoming a pilot in India after 10th standard. Hope you got all the details you were looking for in this article.
