If your basic are clear you will not phase problem to prepare for GATE exam. Before starting your preparation you should be aware of the exam pattern and syllabus of the exam. You should refer previous year papers to understand the exam pattern and level of questions. You should solve as much as mock test series  to analyze the preparation level and to know your strength and weakness.
