Dear Aspirant,

ITI fitter enables a person to be capable of fitting and assembling parts together. This includes welding, using machineries used in fitter workshop, sheet metal etc.

Here are some of the options you can consider after ITI fitter.

  • Apprenticeship
  • Higher Studies
  • Job Opportunities

Let's look at all the three options closely.

1) Apprenticeship : An on-job training process is excellent for experiential learning and can help the enhance the skill and opportunities for a good job in the near future. Here are some organisations or institutions who release notifications for apprenticeship for fitters- BHEL , BEML, HAL, KMF, BSECOM, KPTCL. These are the public sector units. If you want to go for something private, you can go for companies like Toyota, Maruti, Honda, Tata, Exide and other such companies. For this you would have to submit certain documents and go for an interview according to the scheme of the respective company. Mostly the time duration for this in private sectors is 6 months and in public sector is an year. You will even get a small stipend for your work. For obtaining certificate for the same, you can go for National Apprenticeship Exam to gain a National Apprenticeship Certificate. This would help you in pursuing higher education and getting better jobs as well.

2) Higher Studies

Again, there are a lot of options in what kind of higher studies you can do. A lot of Diploma courses are available which would help you gain a deeper knowledge of the subject. This will help you cover both the theoretical and practical aspects of the subject.

You can even go for Specialised Short term courses. If you are looking for a degree or diploma, mechanical engineering would really be a step forward.

You can also give All India Trade Test conducted by the NCVT (National Council for Vocational Training ). The exam is a skill test that certifies the ITI students. After passing AITT, students are awarded National Trade Certificate (NTC) in concerning trade by NCVT. In many engineering trades, an NTC is equivalent to diploma degree.

3) Job Opportunities:

Government Agencies or Public Sector Units are known for hiring ITI's. So you can seek a job in the railways or telecom or services like BSNL, IOCL, ONCG, State-wise PWDs and others. You can eve explore the opportunities in the Indian Armed Forces. Private companies are also on the lookout for the same. There are job opportunities abroad as well. You can even- become self-employed.

Hope this helps. All the best!
