If you want to join any NIT you have to secure a rank below 3k as for general category competition is really high. To secure this rank  you have to score above 300 or more even as rank depends on how much candidates are there and how is their performance. If many candidate will come in the range then your rank will get increase.

so prepare accordingly and give your best in the exam.
