I am originally from Tamilnadu, so I feel I may be able to help you a little bit.

Note that there are three methods of admission criteria for colleges in TN:

• Through JEE Advanced or
• Through Board marks (either TN state board or CBSE) or
• Through each college's entrance exam.

Note that:

1. Through JEE Advanced, you can get into only the IITs and IISERs. There is only one IIT, in Chennai.

2. Most government colleges in Tamilnadu are affliated to Anna University. They take admission through the TN State Board Marks. So, it just falls on your shoulders to study well in PCM to get admissions in the various engineering colleges.

  Colleges like SSN take admissions through only merit, that is, on the basis of your board marks. One of the best colleges in TN is SSN.

3. All other private colleges have their own entrance exams, like, SRM, VIT, etc. But, you are not going to take this option. So, leave it.
