Hello Vedant,

If your father’s name is incorrect or different in official documents, follow these steps to correct it:

1. Identify the Issue: Check which documents have discrepancies (school records, ID proofs, application forms, etc.).

2. Gather Proof:

  • Obtain correct supporting documents, such as:
    • Birth certificate
    • Aadhaar card
    • Passport
    • Voter ID or other government-issued ID showing the correct father’s name.

      3. Apply for Correction:

  • Educational Documents:
Contact the school/board/university for a name correction application. Submit supporting documents and pay any required fees.

  • Government IDs:
Apply online or visit local offices for correction in Aadhaar, PAN card, etc.

    4. Affidavit & Newspaper Publication (If Necessary): In cases of significant discrepancies, prepare an affidavit and publish a correction notice in newspapers.

    5. Keep Records Updated:

Ensure all future applications use the corrected name consistently.

Contact the respective authority as soon as possible if the discrepancy is on an exam application form to avoid disqualification.

I hope this answer helps you. If you have more queries then feel free to share your questions with us we will be happy to assist you.

Thank you and wishing you all the best for your bright future.

If your father's name is different in your documents, you can file an affidavit and get a gazette publication to correct the name. You can then use the gazette notification to change your name with government authorities.

Steps to correct your father's name

  1. Have your father file an affidavit stating that the different names in different documents refer to the same person
  2. File the affidavit with the local jurisdictional court
  3. Get the order published in the official gazette
  4. Use the gazette notification to change your name with government authorities

Documents you may need

Birth certificate, School leaving certificate, Aadhaar card, Passport, PAN card, Voter ID, and Driving license.

You can also change your father's name in your mark sheet or certificate by contacting the board of education you passed out from. You may need to pay a fee to process the name correction application.

Have a great future..
