If I got 88.4% in class 12 and I want to pursue btech should I go for preparation to crack IIT or get admission in some private college..?

Riya taking a year drop and the preparing whole year with full determination, confidence and focus, keeping yourself apart from all the distractions and having only one goal of getting into IIT is always a better option than going into private college now.

With your 12th board exam you are eligible for JEE Mains exam and to get into IIT you will need to first clear JEE Mains exam and the clear JEE Advance examination with a good rank. Believe me the best thing about a whole year proper studies is that in the worst case if you are not able to crack IIT then also you can get some of the National institutes like NIT, IIIT via JEE Mains exam and even if not that then also the private colleges which you will have as an option will be much better than the one which you will be getting now.

If you really work hard for a year and you are able to crack in prestigious engineering college like IIT, NIT then this one year drop will not at all affect your life but it will shape your whole career in an extremely good way.

So, believe in yourself, plus you don't have a financial crisis (I mean you can attend some good coachings) then with full confidence start your preparations for IIT. With your 12th result, you seem to be a smart student, with hard work you can definitely achieve a very good result.

Feel free to ask if you have any more queries. All the best!!

Riya with this rank you will not be able to get any top government college. You can still get admission into some of the private colleges but as I have mentioned above if you can take a year drop then go for it because really you seem to be a very smart student and I think next year you might be telling me your JEE Advance marks by commenting in the same question and asking what rank you can get through it or which IITs you can get through it.

Riya you can inbox me (send a message on the careers360 live feed) your contact number then I will contact you back. And the viewpoint your parents have is not wrong but doing GATE and then going back to IITs is less worthy than doing yours under graduation from IITs. Bearing a private college tag on yourself for whole life will never feed you a positive result in your career plus you never know what is going to happen in the post-graduation preparation.  So, what I think taking a year drop after 12th is always worth it. Private college teaching will never be as effective as IITs or NITs which will never help you or push you in GATE exam preparation.

Riya if you really want to do something good then you need to make your parents trust that within a year you will really able to catch up with some of the top engineering colleges like NITs and IITs. Plus tell them with your this rank it will be very hard to get a very good private college.Plus tell them why they want to want to pay more in a private college (Private college fees are much more than government college plus they don't give good placements plus they don't add so much value to your career)You should gain there trust that you will not waste their coaching money, you will get a good govt. colleges like IITs and NITs whose fees will also be much less than private colleges.you can search me on facebook and text me there if you want to contact more easily: https://www.facebook.com/akshgretAll the best for your future. Hope everything happens out to be good.

Riya even with your 31,047 OBC rank in JEE Mains exam you will not able to get any of the NITs and the other private engineering colleges mostly don't have reservation quota so it will not be of much help.Copy paste this link: https://www.facebook.com/akshgretYou will be able to find me

It totally depends on you. Since you have scored 88.4%, I assume you are good in academics.

If you want to crack JEE Advance for admission into IITs,you should have a good grip over fundamental concepts. You can prepare this exam in 2019 by taking coaching in reputed names.Prepare a study plan and stick to it. Take help from your teachers and friends.Manage time well. One year is difficult but not impossible to crack this exam.Obviously getting a brand name like IIT will help you in getting jobs or future studies. So it is worth preparing for. But many students give up hope and end feeling frustrated because it is tough.

Taking admission in private colleges is not bad, but you have to work hard for the same job. Also there will be less opportunities available to you. But that is not always the case.BITS Pilani ,BIT Mesra,VIT Vellore,Thapar University are good private colleges.
