You need to know that you're planning to invest ONE YEAR of your life span.
It totally depends upon how determined you are.
Is going into esteemed colleges like COEP or VJTI your dream right now?
How confident are you that if you take a drop you WILL get your score up to the mark?
You need to believe in yourself and work extremely hard. It is not impossible at all. But you need to give all your efforts for it and have patience too.

There are examples of students who took a gap and ended up scoring even poorer than what they did at first. If you know your capabilities. And you're not sure if you would keep up your motivation for 1 more entire year or not. You can join into a private college anyway. There are a lot of good private engineering colleges in Maharashtra.
Also, do consider your marks in other entrance exams as well. Like JEE main, or specific Entrance for private colleges like SRM, VIT or Manipal.
