In the KVPY exam, Biology is a must subject which you need to to study in order to clear the examination, and hence several students opt for Biology as a optional subject in there class 12th board examination also so that there is a scope of clearing the KVPY exam as well as having an attempt in the NEET examination too.
While in the engineering colleges, you need to have Physics, Chemistry, and Maths as three compulsory subjects and can have any other optional subject such as Biology or Physical Education or even Computer Science and will have no problem for you in admission process.
