Correct Answer: 12%

Solution : Given: The shopkeeper sells an item at Rs. 4,400 that is marked at Rs. 5000.
Marked price (MP) = Rs. 5000
Selling price (SP) = Rs. 4400
We know,
Discount percentage = $\frac{\text{MP – SP}}{\text{MP}}×100$
= $\frac{5000 – 4400}{5000}×100$ = 12%
Hence, the correct answer is 12%.
