Migration certificate marks the fact that you are being shifted from one board( ICSE, CBSE and so on) to the other. Most of the universities demand the migration certificate at the time of admisison itself. Some even provide you with ample time to collect the certificate and then submit anyhow.

There also are institutions who in no way demand for the migration certificate. So, the best way is to consult an alumna and then know whether or not it is actually needed.
