If you score good marks in exam it is not compulsory that you we'll get free seat. But it depends on the score you get in particular exam and eligibility criteria of getting free seat varies from entrance exam to entrance exam.

So, to get free seat or seat through Convenor quota or Government seat you must have good marks more than previous year's cut-off score of eligible candidates for free seat, because cut-offs varies from year to year and depends on many factors.

Also factors like parents income, parents job sector, caste category, score etc matters to get free seat. So, see the eligibility criteria of the entrance exam to get free seat and apply accordingly of you are eligible for it.
